Craig N. Oren


Professor of Law. Professor Oren earned his A.B. and J.D. degrees at the University of California (Berkeley) in 1973 and 1976, respectively. While in law school, he served as a note and comment editor of the California Law Review, for which he authored both a note and a comment, and clerked for Justice Matthew O. Tobriner of the California Supreme Court. Following graduation, Professor Oren was an associate with the Chicago firm of Schiff, Hardin & Waite. He served as assistant counsel to the U.S. House Subcommittee on Health and the Environment and a consultant to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Professor Oren has been a member of several National Academy of Sciences committees concerned with issues under the Clean Air Act, such as protecting visibility in national parks. Professor Oren is admitted to the bars in California, the District of Columbia, Illinois, and New Jersey. Among his publications are "Prevention of Significant Deterioration: Control-Compelling Versus Site-Shifting" (Iowa Law Review) and "The Protection of Parklands from Air Pollution: A Look at Current Policy" (Harvard Environmental Law Review). Professor Oren has been a visiting professor at the University of California School of Law (Los Angeles) and the University of North Carolina School of Law.
