Professor Afilalo earned an A.B. and
an LL.M. at Harvard University and a J.D. magna
cum laude at Boston University, where he was note editor of the Boston University Law Review. After
graduation from Boston University, Professor Afilalo served as law clerk to
Chief Justice Paul J. Liacos of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. He
then practiced law for several years in New York City, focusing on cross-border
commercial transactions between Europe and the United States. Before joining
the Rutgers-Camden faculty, Professor Afilalo served for one year as Croft
Assistant Professor of Law and International Studies at the University of
Mississippi, where he taught courses in European Union law, public and private
international laws, and banking law. He also taught courses in international
trade and intellectual property as an adjunct professor at Suffolk Law School and
was a legal writing instructor for graduate students at Harvard Law School.
Professor Afilalo is admitted to the bars of Massachusetts and New York. His
scholarly interests and publications relate to international trade and
international investment, institutional and constitutional issues arising in
connection with the integration of separate economies into free trade areas,
customs unions and other legal orders, political theory and international
relations, individual access to remedies under international economic law,
international intellectual property, and Middle Eastern politics. Professor
Afilalo is the coauthor (with Professor Dennis M. Patterson) of The New Global Trading Order: The Evolving
State and The Future of Trade, published by Cambridge University Press in
2008.
