To
develop students' knowledge of African-American, African, and Caribbean
cultural, social, political, and economic experiences; to teach students the
value of multidisciplinary scholarship; to equip students with intellectual and
interpersonal skills that will enable them to function in a variety of
professional careers; to produce graduates who use scholarship in the service
of social justice. Majors will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the
interrelated experiences of African people in Africa, America, and in other
parts of the African diaspora, including their history, philosophy, cultures,
and contemporary issues; apply the research methodologies appropriate to
Africana studies; and employ critical and analytical skills with respect to Africa
and its diaspora.
