Advanced course in reading selected prose texts in the Hebrew Bible, with a special focus on material from Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, and Samuel. Emphasis on the literary devices utilized by
the ancient Israelite prose writers, but also other issues such as grammatical and historical concerns.
Prerequisite: 01:563:211 or permission of instructor.

Advanced course in reading selected poems in the Hebrew Bible, with a special focus on material from Psalms, Proverbs, and the prophets. Emphasis on the literary devices utilized by
the ancient Israelite poets, most importantly parallelism, but also other
issues such as grammatical and historical concerns.
