Requirements for the Jewish Studies Minor
Minors must complete six courses (at least 18 credits), offered by the Department of Jewish Studies or cross-listed by the department, with a grade of C or better in each course, as follows.
Required courses:
- 01:563:201 Jewish History: Ancient and Medieval (3)
- 01:563:202 Jewish History: Modern (3)
Students are advised to take the first two courses as early as possible in their studies, preferably before their junior year. Jewish History I is offered every Fall and Spring semester. Jewish History II is offered only in the Spring semester.
Elective courses: Four courses (at least 3 credits each), of which no more than two can be in elementary or intermediate language Learning Goals: Minors
will be able to demonstrate a broad view of the Jewish past and more
in-depth knowledge of a sample of the spectrum of Jewish studies.
Requirements for the Minor in Language and Culture of Ancient Israel
The minor in language and culture of ancient Israel consists of six courses (18 credits total) from the courses listed below. A student may not
major in Jewish studies and minor in the language and culture of ancient Israel
at the same time. The following courses count toward the minor:-

Requirements for Interdisciplinary Minor in Holocaust Studies (564)
Rutgers now offers an interdisciplinary minor in Holocaust Studies, with courses offered by the German, History, Jewish Studies, and Sociology departments. The minor consists of six courses, as follows:
Required courses:
History of the Holocaust (01:510:261 / 01:563:261)¿[Core Curriculum Course]
Remembering the Holocaust (01:563:360/01:510:370:01) [Core Curriculum Course]
Elective courses:¿Four additional courses in at least two different departments¿currently including German, History, Jewish Studies, and Sociology¿related to the Holocaust. Courses can include:
- A relevant three-credit independent study or internship (e.g., at the Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York), with the approval of the faculty coordinator
- An honors seminar on a relevant topic
- A six-credit honors thesis on a relevant topic, with approval of the faculty coordinator
- One relevant transfer course may be counted toward the minor, pending approval of the faculty coordinator
