Learning Objectives
The objective of the African languages minor is to develop listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills in an African language to the intermediate mid level, as based on the guidelines of the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
Requirements
The minor program in African languages consists of 20-22 credits, which must be completed with a grade of C or better in each course.
Minors must take four courses in one African language (Akan/Twi, Arabic, Swahili, or Yoruba) (14-16 credits). They must also take EITHER:
- Two 300-level courses in the language (6 credits), OR
- 01:013:201 Crossroads: Classical Literatures of Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia (3) and either 01:013:312 African Folklore and Myth (3) or 01:013:211 Introduction to the Literatures of Africa (3)
