Margo Kaplan's research explores legal limitations on intimate
decisions, particularly the use of criminal law in areas of sex and
health. She teaches Criminal Law, Health Law and Policy, and Sex Crimes.
Kaplan is an associate professor at Rutgers Law School. Her publications have examined topics such as
sex-positive law, sexual assault, pedophilia, HIV-exposure
criminalization, and reproductive rights. Professor Kaplan has also
explored these issues in op-eds and interviews for publications such as the New York Times and the Washington Post.
Prior to joining the Rutgers faculty, Professor Kaplan was a visiting assistant professor at Brooklyn Law School. Before that, she served as director of planning and research for the Center for HIV Law and Policy,
as well as a staff attorney fellow for the American Civil Liberties
Union. She clerked for Judge Julio Fuentes of the U.S. Court of Appeals
for the Third Circuit and Judge John G. Koeltl of the U.S. District
Court for the Southern District of New York. She graduated cum laude
from New York University School of Law and also received a master in public administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard University.
