Candidates for honors in art history must, at the end of their junior year, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and an average of 3.5 or better in the major. In their senior year, students enroll in 01:082:497-498, in which independent research on a specific topic is undertaken, and an honors thesis is written under the supervision of a department faculty member. The supervisor and a second reader determine the level of honors based on the thesis. Students planning to write an honors thesis are strongly encouraged to enroll in 01:082:403, Approaches to Art History, before beginning the thesis. For a more complete description of the honors program guidelines, refer to the art history website: https://arthistory.rutgers.edu/academics/undergraduate-welcome/honors-program-in-art-history.
