The field of Asian American studies explores the politics and history of racialization of Asian-descent peoples, including East, South, Southeast, and Southwest Asian Americans, both within the United States and in the Americas. These multiple diasporic groups share historical and legal connections with other racial and ethnic groups in the United States.
The department offers content courses and a Minor in Asian American studies, houses the Asian/Asian American Studies undergraduate certificate (see below), the Asian American Studies Living/Learning Community, and develops programming for the interdisciplinary field, such as the annual Undergraduate Symposium on Asians in the Americas and the Diaspora.
