Students with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade-point average and a 3.4 or better average in anthropology at the end of the junior year may make a written application for honors to the undergraduate director in the spring semester of the junior year or the first week of the senior year. Candidates who are accepted spend two semesters conducting original research and writing an honors thesis under the supervision of a faculty member in anthropology (or other qualified faculty approved by the undergraduate director) and take an oral examination on the paper at the end of the senior year. The faculty adviser and one other faculty member will decide the level of honors, if any, after completion of the oral defense.
