The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program is a voluntary program of military education and leadership development with Navy, Marine Corps, and Navy Nurse options. NROTC is open to qualified male and female students of all academic majors of the university. Navy students earn 22 elective credits plus 16-17 calculus and calculus-based physics credits; Marine Corps students earn 16 credits; and Navy Nurse students earn 10 elective credits. Upon completion of NROTC program academic requirements and attainment of a baccalaureate-level degree, midshipmen are commissioned as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Selected applicants for the program are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selection process, and receive full tuition and other financial benefits. Those participants enrolled on a nonscholarship basis compete to obtain a commissioning, and, if approved, receive a stipend and training benefits in their third and fourth years in the program.
