Entry Requirements


Entry Requirements to Urban Teacher Education Program (UTEP)
  1. A declared major that matches one of the areas of certification (See our Areas of Certification webpage for more information.)
  2. Two English Composition courses with a minimum grade of B in each
  3. A minimum grade of B in the course Social Foundations of Education
  4. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  5. Minimum 3.0 GPA in declared major
  6. Passing score on Praxis CORE Academic Test*

*For information on the Praxis CORE exam, visit https://www.ets.org/praxis/about/core/content.

The New Jersey Department of Education waives this requirement for applicants with at least: SAT score of 1660 combined (critical reading, writing, math); ACT score of 23; GRE scores of 4.0 analytical writing and combined 310 quantitative and verbal.

Students from Newark College of Arts and Sciences and University College-Newark and from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) are able to apply to UTEP twice a year. Application deadlines are April 1 for fall admission and November 1 for spring admission.
