Coordinator: Chazz Fellenz, Assistant Dean
Advisor: Yaw Appiah

The School of Arts and Sciences-Newark at Rutgers University-Newark and the Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP) offer a joint bachelor of science degree in medical imaging sciences (MIS). Students choose one of the two programs: cardiac sonography and diagnostic medical sonography (the nuclear medicine and vascular technology programs are currently unavailable). Students graduating with degrees in MIS become members of health care teams contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. MIS majors are readily employed in a variety of health care, industrial, governmental, and educational settings.

MIS majors complete their prerequisite science and math courses at Rutgers-Newark. They then apply to SHP in January for admission in September into one of four 15-month programs. Admissions are competitive and are not guaranteed. Minimum admissions requirements include an overall GPA of 2.85, with grades of C or better in all prerequisite science courses taken at Rutgers-Newark. Students who transfer into Rutgers-Newark must complete at least half their biology credits at Rutgers-Newark to qualify for the joint-degree program.
