21:615:201 Introduction to Linguistics (3) An introduction to the scientific study of language: how languages agree and differ in their systems of sound, grammar, and meaning; the nature of language acquisition and the processing mechanisms that shape the course of language development of speakers; and the role language plays in society and in the shaping of culture.
21:615:320 Teaching Methodologies for World Languages (3) An introduction to applied linguistics, second language acquisition, and teaching methodologies in line with current cognitive models and perspectives. Open to all students of foreign language, especially those seeking teaching certification in a foreign language. Methods appropriate for K-12 teaching in the New Jersey World Languages curriculum are treated in detail.
21:615:322 Language Acquisition (3) An introduction to the study of what it is about the human brain that makes it uniquely able to acquire and use language. Other topics include typical and atypical language development in children, second language acquisition in adults, and the effects of bilingualism on language development.
