Majors will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the
interrelated experiences of African people in Africa, America, and in other
parts of the African diaspora, including their history, philosophy, cultures,
and contemporary issues; apply the research methodologies appropriate to
Africana studies; employ critical and analytical skills with respect to Africa
and its diaspora, including competencies in at least one non-U.S. "black"
culture; demonstrate a proficiency level of novice-high or higher in both oral
and reading performance in one language of African origin and relate the use of
that language to relevant cultural contexts.
