Each one of the
three academic areas, namely religions in America, religion and conflict, and
contemplative studies (theories in the study of religion and three graduate
courses in one area), is also available through a general certificate in religious studies. The certificate is available to individuals who are current graduate students in other programs at Rutgers,
such as education, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, and social work, as well as other qualified applicants.Certificate students are required to take four courses,
comprising 12 credits: Theories of the Study of Religion plus three courses. Students
interested in pursuing a certificate emphasizing one of the three areas (religions
in America, religion and conflict, or contemplative studies) should
complete the three courses in that area.
