College Teaching 186
Introduction to College Teaching, offered in the spring, and Designing Your Own Course, offered in the fall, are designed to help prepare doctoral students for their roles as future faculty members. These courses will enhance graduate students' understanding of the contemporary college and university classroom and higher education in the United States. The scholarship of teaching and learning, including pedagogical skills, will be a major focus of the two courses. Some readings will be required, along with attendance and participation. The courses will appear on the student's transcript, but incur no additional fees. These courses are not graded. Each will meet over the first 12 weeks of the semester, for two hours per class.
