The Latina/o studies minor promotes a critical
understanding of the cultural production, as well as the historical and
contemporary position of Latinas/os in the United States. The minor offers courses across disciplines and departments pertaining
to the cultural production, histories, political experiences, migratory flows,
bilingualism, and intellectual traditions of Latinas and Latinos living in the
United States. Students will explore commonalities/differences through transnational, circum-Atlantic, and
hemispheric scopes, while becoming familiar with border theory, immigration
studies, racial politics, postcolonial theory, empire studies, queer theory,
gender and sexuality studies, and subaltern studies as theoretical approaches.
