The department offers students the opportunity to graduate in philosophy with departmental honors. The requirements to achieve this distinction are that, at graduation, a student have a major in philosophy with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in philosophy courses; that the student have grades of B+ or higher in at least four 400-level courses offered by the Department of Philosophy; and that the student has obtained final approval by the undergraduate curriculum committee of the department of a 10-30 page paper as an honors thesis. (The paper may have been submitted previously for a course. The committee may make its final approval conditional on additional work.)
