The minor in Jewish studies consists of six 3-credit courses (18 credits), including the two Jewish studies core courses: 01:563:201 Jewish Society and Culture I: From Antiquity to the Middle Ages (3) and 01:563:202 Jewish Society and Culture II: The Modern Experience (3). Of the four remaining courses, three must be at the 300 level or above. Elementary- and intermediate-level language courses may not be counted toward the minor. A grade of C or better is required in all courses that count toward the minor.
Learning Goals: Minors will be able to demonstrate a broad view of the Jewish past and more in-depth knowledge of a sample of the spectrum of Jewish Studies.
Requirements for the Hebrew Language Minor Hebrew language minors must complete six 3-credit courses (18 credits total) in Hebrew language and literature, three of which (9 credits total) must be at the 300 or 400 level. Entering students must take the departmental placement exam. Two of the six courses may be transferred, subject to departmental approval. Students may include among the six courses any courses in classical Hebrew (biblical, rabbinic, etc.). A student may not major in Jewish studies and minor in Hebrew language at the same time.
Learning Goals: Minors in Hebrew language will be able to demonstrate proficiency and mastery of the Hebrew language.
