Brunswick). Professor Patterson holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and a J.D. from the
University of Buffalo. A cofounder and codirector of the
Rutgers–Camden Institute for Law and Philosophy, Professor Patterson has
published widely in many leading journals. His scholarly interests are in the
fields of law and neuroscience, trade law, and legal philosophy. Professor
Patterson has been awarded senior research grants from the Fulbright
Commission, Humboldt Stiftung, and the American Council of Learned Societies.
He was the 2005 holder of the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Law at the
University of Trento, Italy. He is the author of numerous books and articles in
both commercial law and legal philosophy. In 2008, Cambridge University Press
published his book The New Global Trading Order: The Evolving State and The
Future of Trade, coauthored with Professor Ari Afilalo. He is also the
author of Law and Truth (OUP, 1996) and General Editor of the Blackwell
Companion to Legal Philosophy and Legal Theory (second edition 2010). Professor
Patterson has been a visiting professor at the universities of Berlin, Vienna,
Texas, and Georgetown. He is currently on leave at the European University
Institute in Florence, Italy.
