Professor of Law
(Part-Time Faculty, Philosophy and Criminal Justice, Rutgers University–New Brunswick). Professor Walen earned his B.A. summa cum laude in 1987 from the University of Maryland, his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1993 from the University of Pittsburgh, and his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1998. Prior to joining the law school faculty, Professor Walen clerked for the Honorable Nancy Gertner, U.S. District Court, Massachusetts, and worked as a litigation associate at Mayer Brown & Platt's District of Columbia office. He also taught philosophy, law, and public policy at the University of Maryland; philosophy at Aachen University in Germany, law at Heidelberg University in Germany, and philosophy at the University of Baltimore. Professor Walen's scholarly interests concern moral, political, and legal philosophy, as well as criminal, constitutional, and national security law.
