Honorable Dennis Braithwaite


Visiting Professor. Professor Braithwaite graduated cum laude from La Salle University with a B.S. in business administration. Thereafter, he received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and an L.L.M. in the judicial process from the University of Virginia Law School. Professor Braithwaite teaches torts, criminal law, criminal procedure, and accounting for lawyers. Prior to joining the faulty, Professor Braithwaite was a member of the judiciary in the State of New Jersey. He served as a judge of the Superior Court from August 1984 until November 1994. Thereafter, he was appointed to the Superior Court Appellate Division, New Jersey's intermediate court, where he served until his retirement in September 2005. During his tenure as a judge, Professor Braithwaite authored 75 published opinions and was a member of the Appellate Panel on hundreds of other published opinions. He is also the author of "An Analysis of the Divergent Factors: A Misguided Approach to Search and Seizure Jurisprudence Under the New Jersey Constitution," published in the Rutgers Law Journal. Professor Braithwaite is an elected member of the American Law Institute.
