Probation

Students are placed on academic probation after earning a semester grade-point average below 2.000 for two or more consecutive semesters. A notification of probation status detailing requirements necessary for return to satisfactory academic standing is sent to the student¿s Rutgers email address. During the semester of academic probation, students are not permitted to register for more than 16 credits* and required to meet with an academic advisor. Students are restored to satisfactory academic standing upon earning a semester grade-point average of 2.000 or higher.

Additionally, students placed on academic probation may be required to participate in specialized programs or courses designed to help them return to satisfactory academic standing. Failure to comply with the conditions of probation may result in further restrictions on registration or academic suspension or dismissal.

*support coursework, including but not limited to Writing Center tutoring, do not count against the 16 credit restriction. Seniors in their pen/ultimate semester may petition the SAS Office of Advising and Academic Services for an exception to this restriction.
