Full-time students are expected to maintain continuous registration throughout their degree program. Students leaving campus at the end of a semester for study abroad, military service, or any reason other than graduation should notify the
SAS Office of Advising and Academic Services.
Leave of Absence. Matriculated students are expected to maintain continuous registration in the School of Arts and Sciences throughout their degree program. Students who interrupt their enrollment for military service, health reasons, participation in a non-Rutgers study abroad program, or for any other reason, must first notify the
SAS Office of Advising and Academic Services by submitting a leave of absence/withdrawal form.
Students cannot use the automated system to drop their last class or withdraw completely from school. Instead, students must complete and submit the withdrawal form to the registrars to cancel their registration by submitting a leave of absence/withdrawal form by the universities established deadlines.
https://scarlethub.rutgers.edu/registrar/registration/withdrawal-from-all-courses/ Students who submit a leave of absence/withdrawal form before the end of the 12th week of the semester are eligible to return the following semester. Students whose cumulative GPA is below a 2.0 may be required to attend Rutgers Summer Session prior to returning for a fall or spring semester.
Failure to attend class is not equivalent to a formal leave of absence/withdrawal. Students must submit a completed Leave of Absence/Withdrawal form to the University Registrar (see
https://studentabc.rutgers.edu/withdrawals-school) ¿in order to receive an adjustment of charges or grades by the universities established deadlines.
Withdrawal. Students may submit a withdrawal for a particular semester when a return date is not known or when there is not a plan to return to the School of Arts and Sciences. Failure to attend class is not equivalent to a withdrawal, and students will not receive an adjustment of charges or grades (see
https://studentabc.rutgers.edu/withdrawals-school) unless a formal withdrawal is filed with and approved prior to the 12th week of the semester.
Tuition Refund Dates for Withdrawing from the Entire Semester. The refund schedule for complete withdrawal from the semester is posted on the
Student Accounting, Billing and Cashiering website. Failure to attend class is not equivalent to a withdrawal. Students will not receive an adjustment of charges unless a formal Leave of Absence/Withdrawal is filed with and approved by the
SAS Office of Advising and Academic Services.
Students must register for and successfully complete 30 credits a year (generally 15 credits a semester) in order to graduate in four years. Full-time tuition is charged as a flat rate for 12 credits or more; registration adjustments within 12-20.5 credits do not render refunds.
Reenrollment. Students in good academic standing who submitted a leave of absence/withdrawal form before the end of the 14th week of the semester and indicated a semester of return on their form will be able to preregister for the upcoming semester during the dates specified on university schedule. Students who submitted a leave of absence/withdrawal form by the 14th week of the semester without indicating a date of return, or who left the university without submitting a leave of absence/withdrawal, must apply for reenrollment in order to reactivate their registration eligibility. Any conditions established at the time of leaving must be met before application for readmission is made. All financial holds must be resolved before returning students are able to register. The reenrollment form is available online at¿
https://sasundergrad.rutgers.edu/advising/current-students/reenrollment. Please take note of the deadlines for each semester of reenrollment.
Students eligible to return will be reenrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences and will be held to all of the school's current degree requirements. (Re)declaration of major and/or departmental certification is at the discretion of the relevant academic department(s).
