Honors Programs

Students applying to the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences may be eligible for the Honors College of Rutgers University–New Brunswick, a residential honors program that brings together the most high-achieving students from all disciplines. The Honors College welcomed its first class of students in the fall of 2015. In addition, the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences offers two schoolwide honors programs:

1. The General Honors Program is a four-year program for which university Presidential Scholars and selected high school seniors who apply to the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences prior to the application deadline are invited to compete. Students who join the program are awarded supplementary merit scholarships.

2. The George H. Cook Scholars Program is the senior honors thesis program of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Students in the top 15 percent of their class in the fall semester of the junior year are automatically invited to participate, but juniors in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences who are nominated by a faculty member may join the program in their final three semesters.

Additionally, several departments offer departmental honors in the major program of study to students who fulfill department requirements, which typically include honors courses and/or independent research projects.
