All Ph.D. students must take at least one course from each
of the five following categories. All M.S. students must take one course from
four of the five following categories:

Ph.D. students must fulfill these course requirements before
taking the qualifying examination.
All M.S. students must take at least 1 credit of seminar,
and all Ph.D. students must take at least two 1-credit seminars. The M.S.
degree with thesis requires a minimum of 24 course credits, 6 research credits,
a thesis, and a comprehensive examination. For the Ph.D. degree, students must
complete at least 30 course credits and 24 research credits. Eighteen
additional credits must also be taken in either course credits or research
credits (for a total of at least 72 credits). The Ph.D. qualifying examination
must be passed before admission to candidacy, and completion and successful
public defense of a thesis is also required.
