The master of science (M.S.) in computer science program provides an option whereby students enrolled in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences or in University College-Camden may apply during their junior year to enter a bachelor of science/master of science (B.S./M.S.) dual-degree program in computer science. This program enables students with strong academic standing in the undergraduate B.S. program to begin graduate work while still an undergraduate, thus speeding the completion of the master's degree.
To qualify for accelerated admission, an undergraduate student in the B.S. program must meet the following minimum requirements by the end of the fall semester in his or her third (junior) year:
1. 80 credits toward the B.S. degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better and
2. Completion of all the computer science requirements for the B.S. degree (except possibly two core courses: 50:198:476 Theory of Computation and 50:198:493 Senior Design Project, and two computer science electives), with a GPA in the completed computer science courses of 3.6 or higher.
Once accepted, students may take one graduate course in each semester of their senior year; these courses will be double-counted toward both the B.S. and M.S. requirements. As seniors, students must apply to the graduate school in the regular manner and be formally admitted and matriculated. In consultation with the department's graduate committee, students will then devise a course plan to complete the remainder of their credits as master-level students.
