The Latin American and Latino studies (LALS) program welcomes students and faculty with interests in the fascinating and diverse region that stretches from the Mexican border to the tip of Tierra del Fuego, as well as the Latin American populations that live within the United States. The minor in Latin American and Latino studies complements major programs in Spanish language and literature, history, business, economics, sociology, anthropology, political science, art, or other disciplines. A minor in Latin American and Latino studies helps prepare students for the teaching profession, whether in Spanish, history, or social studies; for careers in international business; and for any career that involves working with Spanish-speaking people. It is recommended for students whose plans include travel, work, or study anywhere in the region.
