The Department of Chemistry is accredited by the American Chemical Society's Committee on Professional Training. Students who complete the prescribed programs of study are certified by the committee. The student who plans to major in chemistry may choose from among five options. The certificate program and the traditional chemistry program prepare the student for graduate study in chemistry or biochemistry, or for employment as a professional chemist or biochemist. The biochemistry program prepares the student for graduate study in biochemistry or one of the allied health fields, or for employment in related fields. The chemistry-business program is directed to entry-level preparation for the non-laboratory aspects of the chemical profession and the academic prerequisites for pursuit of the M.B.A. degree.
