50:100:305Observational Astronomy (3)Students will use telescopes and computers to perform observations of planets, stars, galaxies, open star clusters, nebulae, and the moon. Experimental projects include deep-sky astrophotography (CCD and film), measuring the rotational period of the sun and topography of the moon, etc.
50:100:306Descriptive Astronomy (R) (3) Introduction to astronomy and astrophysics. Emphasis on the solar
system and Kepler's Laws, stellar magnitudes, distances, stellar
evolution, the galaxy, black holes, and the Big Bang. Recommended for
nonscience majors; however, numerical examples are used. Depending on
the time of year, students also may be required to participate in a
star-viewing program.Lec. 3 hrs. Occasional short field trips.
