In rare
instances, the student teaching experience may be canceled or
terminated at the request of the cooperating teacher or host school,
the university supervisor, the student, and/or the director of the
Teacher Preparation Program. Should it become necessary for a student
to withdraw from student teaching, reinstatement may not be possible
sooner than the third term following the term of withdrawal.
Since the field experience and seminar are mutually reinforcing,
withdrawal from the field experience must be accomplished
simultaneously by a withdrawal from the seminar. It is the student's
responsibility to formally withdraw from the courses, lest a grade of
incomplete become an F. Information about the withdrawal process
should be obtained from the registrar's office.
Reinstatement might first require individual remediation, in which case
successful remediation must be demonstrated before a second attempt at
student teaching could be granted. Any student seeking reinstatement in
the 12-credit student teaching term must also file a reapplication
for student teaching according to the timetable set forth by the
Teacher Preparation Program.
Please note: No student teachers will be placed in schools where
immediate family members work or attend; student teachers seeking a
K-12 endorsement will not be placed in the high school from which they
graduated.
