Introduction to Gerontology (3)
Understanding the issues related to aging and the health care of older adults provides the foundation for quality geriatric care. This course provides students with a foundation for providing care to the older adult population. The course introduces students to the implications of the graying of America, including physiological and psychosocial aspects of the aging process, theories of aging, communication strategies, ethical issues, and the influence of culture and ethnicity on perceptions about health and illness. The interdisciplinary nature of geriatric care is emphasized through case discussions. Graduate students will be required to complete graduate level papers and assignments.
IDST 5300 is a required course for M.P.H. students in the population aging concentration. Interested students in other concentrations require special permission to register for this course. This course is offered through Rutgers School of Health Professions.
