Doctoral Programs

Students may choose to work toward a doctor of public health (Dr.P.H.) or doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. Please note that the School of Public Health is suspending applications to the Dr.P.H. program for academic year 2018-2019. Some view the Dr.P.H. as a more practice-oriented degree and the Ph.D. as a more research-oriented degree.

Candidates for the Ph.D. are expected to enroll full time and are required to complete a minimum of 72 credits, participate in the Doctoral Colloquium each fall and spring semester, fulfill a teaching experience, be immersed in research, pass written and oral qualifying examinations, as well as complete and defend original dissertation research.

For program requirements, visit the About the Ph.D. Degree webpage on the school's website.

For information about rules and procedures for the doctoral program, review the Doctoral Program Policy Handbook.
