Introduction to Global Public Health (3)
There is a growing emphasis on global health concerns by the U.S. government and other agencies. In a world that is increasingly globalized yet also fragmented it not only becomes important to ensure a health care workforce that is conversant with global health concerns, but also to build knowledge networks and research capacities to address information gaps. In addition to communicable diseases, malnutrition, and lack of infrastructure and economic means that magnify negative health effects from environmental degradation, climate change, emergencies, and war activity, developing countries are increasingly affected by chronic diseases. This introductory course on global public health provides students with an overview of important components of global public health.
