Fieldwork I (1)
In this special-permission course, students plan their fieldwork. During the planning phase of fieldwork, students identify a project and obtain approval from their fieldwork faculty adviser, site preceptor, and fieldwork coordinator through
completion of a project contract/proposal form. They also acquire a basic familiarity with research protections for human subjects through required online training, in-person seminars, and submitting an IRB application. Students cannot pass Fieldwork I without the completion
of a Fieldwork contract, CITI and eIRB training, attending an IRB overview session, submitting an IRB application, and
the completion of the online self-assessment of competencies.
Prerequisites: Required courses, faculty adviser's approval, and graduate practicum director's approval. This course is offered at all of the school's locations during fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Fieldwork II (5)
Implementation phase of fieldwork during which students complete a focused, analytical research study or public health practice project that reflects understanding of the academic discipline principles, content, and methods studied in the classroom. The study and project site are individually arranged during Fieldwork I, in consultation with the fieldwork faculty adviser, to meet student needs. During Fieldwork II, students participate in problem solving and observations; collect and analyze data/information; apply theory to practice; develop professional judgment; gain exposure to an organization's environment, culture, and purposes; make professional contacts; and clarify career goals. The final written report should warrant publication in a professional journal. The formal, oral presentation follows the APHA scientific sessions format.
Prerequisites: FDWC 0600, fieldwork faculty adviser's approval, graduate practicum director's approval. This course is offered at all of the school's locations during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
