The course is designed to provide experiential and analytical opportunities for students in the nonprofit sector. Focuses on developmental and career issues that are relevant to leadership development in this sector especially the health care and governmental environments. The course goals are to expose students to the concepts related to emotional intelligence and related behaviors; to develop personal analytical skills of character and leadership development as understood through fiction literature; and to employ and develop their conceptual abilities by applying the literature analyses to the experiential presentations by leaders in the nonprofit sector.

As members of the public health community we have
a role to play in shaping how people think about and work to eliminate health
disparities. This course examines how social, economic, environmental, cultural,
and lifestyle factors contribute to differences in morbidity and mortality in racial
and ethnic minorities and the medically underserved. We will also examine social determinants of population health.

measurement and management are explored in depth. Theories of public and nonprofit performance are reviewed with a clear focus on application in the
management setting. Types of measures are reviewed and their relationships are explored through program logic models. Selection of key performance indicators and proximate measures is discussed. Tools and methods of performance
measurement, including benchmarking and trend analysis, are introduced. Data
collection, analysis, and reporting are reviewed. Students learn how to align
performance measurement with strategic organizational goals and objectives in
order to facilitate learning and improved effectiveness.
