The graduate faculty accepts for graduate credit only a limited number of courses in which a student earns a grade of C+, C, or D (see details on scholastic standing on the Specialty Master's Degree Requirement main page). A grade of F is assigned to students who fail to earn credit in a course they completed and to students who do not complete a course from which they have not withdrawn officially.
Additional Grading Symbols
IN (Incomplete).
If, for legitimate reasons, a student is unable to complete all the required
coursework or examinations, a faculty member may choose to submit a grade ofINC (incomplete). If the coursework is not completed, the INC is automatically
changed to an F on February 1 for the summer trimester, June 1 for the fall
trimester, and September 1 for the spring trimester. Justified reasons for the
submission of the grade of INC might include illness requiring medical
attention, personal emergency obligations claimed by the student and recognized
as valid, recognized religious holiday(s), and severe inclement weather causing
dangerous travel conditions.

Students incurring more than two INC grades in the same trimester may be
contacted by the Scholastic Standing Committee. The committee reserves the
right to place on probation any student who consistently fails to complete
coursework on time, in which case that student will be permitted no future INC
grades.

S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory).  For 700-level courses of research carrying credit, in any courses that are listed as 0-zero credit courses, or in regular courses taken as "not-for-credit" (N prefix).

W (Withdrawal).  Officially withdrew.
Credit Prefixes

The number of credits appearing on course records and registration cards may be preceded by a letter prefix as follows:
E.  Course excluded from credit toward a degree; all course requirements must be completed and a regular grade is assigned.

G.  A 300- or 400-level undergraduate course for which credit toward the graduate degree sought has been approved.

K.  Course taken as a nonmatriculant; not counted toward a degree.

N.  Course taken "not-for-credit." The final examination is not required. A final grade of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) is assigned. Graduate students registering for undergraduate courses are subject to the credit prefix rules of the undergraduate division offering the course.
Holds
The privileges of registration and advance registration are barred to students having outstanding obligations to the university. Obligations may take the form of unpaid monies, unreturned or damaged books and equipment, parking fines, other charges for which a student may become legally indebted to the university, and failure to comply with disciplinary sanctions or administrative actions.
Transcripts

Requests for official transcripts of a student's academic work are accepted only from the student concerned. Requests can be made electronically at https://transcripts.rutgers.edu.

Transcripts of academic work include all courses taken and grades received at the university. Students may request a transcript that includes all courses taken while enrolled as an undergraduate student (matriculating, nonmatriculating, and Summer/Winter Session), all courses taken while enrolled as a graduate student (matriculating, nonmatriculating, and Summer/Winter Session), or all courses taken while enrolled in all schools.

Requests for official transcripts for all current and former students will be processed in the order received. Allow ten (10) days for release. We also cannot accept EMAIL requests.

Currently enrolled students may download unofficial transcripts from the web at https://sis.rutgers.edu/tags.
