Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick 2024-2026 Degree Programs Master of Information Technology and Analytics

Master of Information Technology and Analytics Program

Awareness of the importance of information technology (IT) for business is becoming widespread. The industry has created more and more job opportunities for people who have interdisciplinary skills. Indeed, this program intends to bridge the gap between IT and business. In this program, the students have the opportunities to learn both domain and technical knowledge to face the tough challenges in the industry.

The program also prepares students to manage significant software development projects and lead teams of information technology professionals engaged in design, analysis, implementation, and service delivery. But because of the program's emphasis on both technical and domain knowledge, students who are primarily interested in management should instead apply to the Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick's master of business administration program.

Students who earn a master of information technology and analytics (M.I.T.A.) degree and specialize in accounting information systems may pursue careers in information risk management with public accounting firms, who need employees with expertise in computer auditing and risk management. These same skills can also be applied in internal auditing for the review and analysis of corporate computer systems.

Applicants are expected to have a bachelor's degree and basic knowledge in calculus and statistics. We particularly welcome applicants with undergraduate degrees in business, industrial engineering, library science, information technology, computer science, and related fields.

Students may take the program on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students can complete the program in one year. Part-time students must be able to attend classes during the day.

Tuition, fees, and other program costs are determined by residency; for more information see the the Tuition and Costs page. Financial aid is not available through the program, but the program is closely associated with five research centers that employ students and bring them into contact with their industry and government partners:

For students who will later pursue doctoral study in information technology or accounting information systems, they will have the opportunities to take many of the same courses as students in the Rutgers Business School doctoral programs in information technology, accounting information systems, and operations research.

The master of information technology and analytics program does qualify as a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field for international students that are considering Optional Practical Training (OPT). More information about OPT and STEM is available at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
