A. Major Requirements (71 credits)
The major in biological sciences is offered by the School of Arts and Sciences. It involves 47 credits of required life science core courses, and 24 credits of approved life science electives. No more than two courses with a grade of D may be used to fulfill the requirements of the major. Please refer to the SAS section of the catalog for the Life Sciences for a full description of the requirements of the major.
B. Additional SEBS Core Requirements for Students Majoring in Biological Sciences (38 credits)
I. School Mission: Interdisciplinary Critical Analysis (3 credits)
One 3-credit Junior/Senior Colloquium (See the SEBS Degree Requirements chapter for a description of this requirement.) Note: Some Junior/Senior Colloquia also fulfill the professional ethics requirement (see Area VIII below).
II. Introductory Life and Physical Sciences
This SEBS requirement is automatically fulfilled by the introductory biology and chemistry requirements of the major.
III. Humanities and the Arts (6 credits)

IV. Multicultural and International Studies (6 credits)

V. Human Behavior, Economic Systems, and Political
Processes (9 credits)

VII. Experience-Based Education (3 credits)
This SEBS requirement may be fulfilled by a research project in biology approved in advance by the director of advising (for which the student may receive credits for research in biology); by student teaching credits; or by an appropriate 3-credit SEBS Student to Professional Internship Network (SPIN) internship or coop program placement in a biological science area, by the Rutgers Study Abroad Program, including field, research, or work experiences related to biology for 3 credits, or by an appropriate research project in related School of Environmental and Biological Sciences programs of study approved by the SEBS biological sciences adviser.
VIII. Professional Ethics in the Biological Sciences (3 credits)
All SEBS students majoring in biological sciences must complete one of the following courses in bioethics:
