Declaration and Change of Major

Full-time students declare their major curriculum in the second semester of their first year. Students are notified via email of the procedures and deadlines for doing so. After declaring his or her major, each student is assigned to an academic adviser in the selected major who will provide advice about the program and its requirements, and about the appropriate courses to select for the fall semester of the student's second year. Students who fail to declare a major by the deadline will be blocked from preregistering for their fall semester classes until they submit the major declaration form.

A list of majors open to students in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences is given in the Programs of Study section of this chapter.

A change of major should be discussed with the student's faculty adviser and the undergraduate program director of the curriculum the student plans to enter. Such a change should then be properly recorded on a Change of Major form available in the school's Office of Academic Programs, Martin Hall, Second Floor.

Students selecting a major not offered at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences must apply for a transfer to the school offering the major (school-to-school transfer). Application deadlines, admissions criteria, and online application forms can be accessed at: http://admissions.rutgers.edu/schooltoschool.
