All four science areas should include a laboratory. In addition,
some medical and dental schools may require knowledge of a foreign
language, a year of college mathematics, and additional work in the
sciences. There is, however, no prescribed premedical major. Applicants
to medical and dental schools should have excellent
records, especially in the sciences, as well as experience in a
health care field. Also, all schools recognize the importance of
well-developed communication skills and a strong background in the
humanities and the social sciences. Students should contact the Rutgers
Health Professions office at 732/932-5667. Douglass College students
should contact the Douglass Health Professions office at 732/932-9197,
ext. 15. Cook College students should contact Dean Joseph Ventola at
732/932-3000, ext. 512.
