Quaternary studies gives students the chance to study the earth and its
inhabitants over the last few million years. It is an interdisciplinary
program that awards a certificate of achievement to students who are
pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in their major field.
Participating graduate programs are anthropology, ecology and
evolution, environmental sciences, geography, and geological sciences.
Students must fulfill all degree requirements in their major program
and take two courses in other participating programs that focus on the
Quaternary period. In addition, the certificate requires enrollment for
one semester in 16:855:501 Quaternary Studies Seminar. If a thesis is
required for the degree, it should focus on the late Cenozoic or
Quaternary time period.
