Charles I. Auffant oversees the Community and Transactional Lawyering
Clinic He's worked for numerous organizations, including the Urban
League of Essex County, Essex-Newark Legal Services, Newark Board of
Education, the University of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Zoning Board
of Adjustment for the City of Newark.
Professor Auffant received his B.A. from Herbert H. Lehman College of
the City University of New York in 1979 and his J.D. from Rutgers School
of Law-Newark in 1982. He joined Rutgers in 1998 as a clinical attorney
in the Urban Legal Clinic. He has worked as a staff
attorney for Essex-Newark Legal Services, as director of housing for the
Urban League of Essex County, as associate counsel for the Newark Board
of Education, and as counsel to the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey. His urban law experience also includes serving
as a commissioner of the Zoning Board of Adjustment of the City of
Newark since 1997. In the Community and Transactional Lawyering Clinic
he specializes in the real estate and transactional representation of
urban charter schools.
