The department expects to start a proposed new Master of Science (M.S.) in computer science degree program beginning in fall 2007. If approved, there will be an option whereby students enrolled in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences or in University College may apply during their junior year to enter a dual-degree B.S./M.S. program. This program will enable students with strong academic standing in the undergraduate B.S. program to begin graduate work while still undergraduates, thus speeding the completion of the master's degree.
To qualify for accelerated admission, an undergraduate student in the B.S. program must meet the following minimum requirements by the end of the fall term in his or her third (junior) year:
1. 80 credits toward the B.S. degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher,
2. all the computer science requirements (except possibly two core courses: 50:198:476 Introduction to the Theory of Computation and 50:198:493 Senior Design Project, and two computer science electives) for the B.S degree with a GPA on the completed computer science courses of 3.6 or higher.
Once accepted, students may take one graduate course in each term of their senior year; these courses will be double-counted toward both the B.S. and M.S. requirements. As seniors, students must apply to the graduate school in the regular manner and be formally admitted and matriculated. In consultation with the department's Graduate Committee, students will then devise a course plan to complete the remainder of their credits as master-level students.
