Major requirements in French can be completed only through daytime attendance.
The program in French on the Camden campus is a small program with a distinguished
faculty offering a wide range of courses and programs covering all
aspects of French language, literature, and culture with three distinct
educational goals:
1. Courses in the French language from beginning to
advanced levels, for students interested in learning to use French for
business, travel, personal enjoyment, or further study.
2. Courses on French literature and civilization
taught primarily in French, for advanced students, especially those
with a major or minor specialization in French and planning further
study or a career in teaching, but also those majoring in related
fields like art, English, history, music, or other languages, and
international and global studies.
3. Courses on various aspects of French literature and
civilization taught in English and open to students with no knowledge
of the language seeking a broad liberal arts background; many of these
courses are cross-listed in other programs: African-American studies,
criminal justice, film studies, and women's studies.
The French program offers a major and minor. Students with a
French major may obtain teacher certification in French through the
Teacher Preparation Program. The French program strongly
encourages joint majors, either with other languages, other liberal
arts departments, or with a business program. Qualified students
may enroll in the departmental honors program.
