Students wishing to major in this department must have been enrolled at Rutgers for at least one semester. In addition, students must:
1. Be an SAS student
2. Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00, and a GPA of at least 2.8 at the time of taking research for credit.
3. Have earned a C or better in these prerequisite courses or equivalents (25-26 credits):
a. General Biology I 01:119:115
b. General Biology II 01:119:116
c. General Biology Lab 01:119:117
d. General Chemistry I either 01:160:161 or 01:160:163
e. General Chemistry II either 01:160:162 or 01:160:164
f. Calculus I either 01:640:135 or 01:640:151
g. Calculus II or Statistic either 01:640:136, or 01:640:152, or 01:640:192, or 01:960:401, or 01:960:212, or 01:960:379
4. Students with an overall GPA < 3.0 must meet with the UGD before declaring the major.
a. Genetics is a credit-intensive major and has a requirement of a 2.80 GPA at the time of taking research for credit
b. Students entering the major with a GPA of < 3.0 may struggle to complete the major on time
5. Attend a Genetics Major Declaration Meeting
