Students may choose to work toward a doctor of public health (Dr.P.H.) or doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.
Please note that the School of Public Health is suspending applications to the Dr.P.H. program for academic year 2017-2018. Some view the Dr.P.H. as a more practice-oriented degree and the Ph.D. as a more
research-oriented degree. The Dr.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees require a minimum of 72 credits for completion. Candidates for either doctoral degree, in consultation with their advisers, must develop a proposed course of study, or curriculum; meet a seminar requirement; fulfill a teaching experience; pass a preliminary exam (Department of Biostatistics only); complete a practicum (Dr.P.H. students only); pass a qualifying examination; and
defend a dissertation. In addition, Dr.P.H. candidates will need to complete a practicum experience.
