Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick 2024-2026 Degree Programs Master of Science in Business of Fashion Admissions

Admissions

The master of science in business of fashion (M.S.B.F.) program targets academically strong students from both creative and business backgrounds. Industry professionals seeking advancement and/or job changes, career switchers, designers, entrepreneurs, and those with business degrees and experiences as well as others simply interested in a career in the industry combine their diverse perspectives and backgrounds to create an enriched classroom experience. Admission is highly competitive and enrollment is limited. Decisions are made holistically and weigh various factors including academic background, graduate test scores and/or relevant work experience, and interest. The program is small and student-centric.

Application Deadlines

There are three rounds of decisions per semester. We encourage applicants to apply early as we admit applicants on a rolling basis as spots are limited.

For application deadlines, please contact us at fashion@business.rutgers.edu.

Note: Exams must be completed two weeks before the deadlines for both international and domestic students alike.

Start Your Application

Admissions to the master of science in business of fashion program is highly competitive and enrollment is limited.

Online application

All requirements listed below must be satisfied. As soon as the online application is completed with all requirements listed below, the director will select candidates for a personal interview by invitation only.

In addition to the online application, applicants must complete the following:

1. Application Fee (nonrefundable) of $70

The application fee is waived for all SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology faculty members applying through the professional development track (FIT/M.S.B.F.). If applicable, kindly contactadmit@business.rutgers.eduprior to submitting your application and attach a scan of your faculty ID card.

2. Official Transcripts

To expedite the review process, applicants should upload unofficial transcripts to the online application or via email to the admission office. Upon being accepted and committing to the program, applicants must mail in an official transcript for each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.

For Rutgers graduates, please note that even though you are applying to Rutgers as an alumnus, you still need to contact the registrar's office and request your official transcript be mailed to our office upon admission to the program.

Applicants holding international transcripts do not need to have their transcripts evaluated unless advised by the Rutgers Business School Admissions Committee. For more information on this, or if you are a domestic applicant holding international transcripts, please refer to our international instructions.

3. GMAT or GRE Test Results

Official GMAT, GRE, or LSAT test results, taken within five years from the semester of entrance, are required.

  • GMAT code: QK5-XT-08
  • GRE code: 5529

Applicants holding one of the following degrees are exempt from the GMAT/GRE: J.D., Ph.D., M.D., or Pharm.D., M.B.A., and certain M.S. programs.

Test waivers are granted in exceptional cases only and are at the discretion of the director, based on a variety of factors such as, in part, relevant work experience (typically at least two years of applicable work experience in specific positions or very specific advanced terminal degrees). Appeals are not possible.

You can request a waiver in your online application--additional fields will appear once you check the waiver request checkbox, where you can submit a required cover letter stating the reasons for your waiver request, as well as your supporting materials (e.g., professional certificates, award certificates).

Test waivers are granted to Rutgers-Newark and New Brunswick undergraduate students meeting one of the following criteria:

  • 3.00 or better GPA for Rutgers Business School students with a business of fashion concentration or minor.
  • 3.10 or better GPA for Rutgers University quantitative degrees (mathematics, science, computer science, engineering, and others).
  • 3.20 or better GPA for Rutgers Business School students with concentration or minor NOT in business of fashion.
  • 3.30 or better GPA for all other Rutgers University students.

Fashion Institute of Technology professors and students: As part of our agreement with your school, FIT professors eligible for the M.S.B.F. as part of their professional development track are automatically waived from the entrance exam requirement. FIT students are also eligible for the waiver if certain criteria are met.
