Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick 2024-2026 Degree Programs Master of Financial Analysis Admissions

Admissions

We seek a diverse student body to bring to the classroom varying experiences and backgrounds. The program admits those students who, in the opinion of the Program Admissions Committee, show promise of succeeding in the program. Primary consideration is given to the applicant's scholastic record and the GRE or GMAT score. Other considerations include professional work experience, professional appraisals, civic leadership, and extracurricular participation. Since January 2017, the program has been accepting part-time students--working professionals with roughly two years of work experience.

Application Deadlines

Full-time students are admitted for the semester beginning early July only and the application deadline is May 15 or until class is full. We encourage students to apply early as we admit students on a rolling basis. Working professionals interested in pursuing the degree part-time must apply by December 15 for admission to the spring semester and August 1 for the fall semester.

Part-Time Spring
Spring Admissions Deadline December 15
Part-Time Fall
Fall Admissions Deadline August 1
Full-Time
June 1 for International

Summer or Fall Admission

All full-time students must apply for the summer semester, which begins in early July. Depending on past coursework and whether an applicant is required to submit the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic score, some students may be exempt from the Summer Session and will be allowed to start in the fall.

Part-time students must apply for admission for either the spring semester or fall semester and will also be required to take a summer Accounting for Managers course prior to their first semester. An equivalent financial accounting course taken at another university may satisfy this requirement.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

In addition to the online application, applicants must complete the following:

1. Application Fee (nonrefundable) of $70

The application fee is waived for all military and veteran applicants. If you fall into this category, please email admit@business.rutgers.edu PRIOR to submitting your application and send her a copy of your DD 214 form or a copy of your military ID card. Do NOT include your social security number when emailing the form. Please block it out prior to sending.

2. Official Transcripts

To expedite the review process, applicants should upload unofficial transcripts to the online application or via email to the admission office. Upon being accepted and committing to the program, applicants must mail in an official transcript for each undergraduate and graduate institution attended.

For Rutgers graduates, please note that even though you are applying to Rutgers as an alumnus, you still need to contact the registrar's office and request your official transcript be mailed to our office.

3. GMAT or GRE Test Results

Official GMAT or GRE test results, taken within five years from the semester of entrance, are required.

  1. GMAT code: QK5-XT-02
  2. GRE code: 5529

Please click here to try a sample GMAT quiz.

You will be considered for (but not automatically given) a GMAT/GRE waiver if you meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate degree with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher (or the equivalent if another grading scale is used) in a quantitative area including: business administration, economics, engineering, biological sciences, information and computer science, health sciences, or physical sciences.
  • Graduate (master's or doctoral) degree or professional credential such as Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant.
  • Five or more years of professional work experience after completing undergraduate degree.
  • Four or more years of military experience.

You can request a GMAT waiver in your online application--additional fields will appear once you check the waiver request checkbox, where you can submit which criteria you meet for your request.

4. TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic

Applicants must take the TOEFL iBT®, IELTS, or PTE Academic exam if their native language is not English. Not required of students who have obtained an undergraduate or graduate degree in the United States or other English-speaking countries (Canada, England, etc.). This requirement can only be waived if you have studied for two or more years in a college/university in an English-speaking country such as the United States or Canada.

The CFA exams, as well as classes taught at Rutgers Business School, are only given in English. In addition, English is the language of business. Our program is designed to not only prepare students academically, but also provides a way for students to improve their English proficiency. By taking our Summer Intensive Business English (SIBE) program, successful students should perform better in their finance classes as well as on the CFA exams. Each student will have their English proficiency assessed prior to admission to the program. All international students  required to take the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic exam will be required to attend our six-week (25 hours per week) SIBE program. Students will be placed in SIBE classes based on their level of English proficiency from lower intermediate to advanced. International students exempted from taking the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic exam (see above) will still benefit from taking the summer intensive English coursework and are strongly urged to do so.

  1. TOEFL Code: B355 - The minimum acceptable TOEFL iBT® is 90.
  2. IELTS: Please contact IELTS and have your score sent to our office (address listed below). The M.Fin.A. program requires a minimum score of a 6.5 on the IELTS
  3. PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language proficiency test designed to measure reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, as they are used in an academic setting. Rutgers Business School requires a minimum score of 68 on PTE Academic.

In addition, all international students required to take the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic exam must also have a Skype interview with our staff.

The TOEFL iBT®, IELTS, or PTE Academic scores and the Skype interview together will be used to determine the current level of English proficiency for each applicant. This will be used to:

  1. determine if an applicant will be able to sufficiently improve their English by completing our SIBE program (for applicants at the lower end of acceptable TOEFL iBT®, IELTS, or PTE Academic scores); and
  2. place students in the appropriate level in our SIBE classes.

5. Essay

An essay is not required for this program.

Optional Essay (personal statement) - Provide any additional information not addressed elsewhere in your application materials that will help the admissions committee learn more about your candidacy. Please address any employment gaps, academic concerns, strengths, or weaknesses.

6. You must provide two letters of recommendation

Letters of recommendation can either be submitted through the online application or they can be mailed to our office directly by the recommender on company letterhead.

7. Submit your current résumé

This can be done through the online application.

8. International Applicants

Additional requirements apply to international applicants. Click here for instructions.
